Where we dicuss what really matters to us. Black Lives Matter is a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes. It goes beyond the narrow nationalism that can be prevalent within some Black communities, which merely call on Black people to love Black live Black and buy Black.
With the current events that are playing out in the news police murdering us at records number maybe not. We just have video’s social media to show the world what have known since the first African were brought here in 1619.
What we African Americans (blacks), other minorities, and others who have been victims of harassment, and or murder at the hands of whites, mostly police officers, need is someone in power to step up and say enough already. Micah Johnson risked his own life to make the statement, the killings at the hand of police officers has to stop. The fact he killed 5 white police officers, shed more of the ugly truth. I believe DISCONNECT is as bad as racism. The disconnect being comments were made that the officers had families. What about all the innocent victims of police killings? They had families too. If you disregard skin color, uniform, etc, what you have is a human being. You would have to be racist, disconnected, twisted and devoid of any compassion to not feel anything for the innocent victims, such as Alton Sterling who was shot 6 times, after being tased, and lying on the ground. (#5 Impact and weapons and #6 Deadly force) They skipped the 4 first levels of the 6 levels of police force). He was a father too, of 5 children, one son of whom was so devastated and inconsolable. And Philando Castile, who was shot in front of his fiancé and 4 year old child, for what? A broken taillight? Really?
I suppose the disconnect is so natural to many, because the innocent victims are always criminalized, therefore deserving of their fate. It's a sad day in America, when people see the need to bring up your criminal record from 20 years ago, and criticize you for selling alleged pirated cd's, none of which merit a death sentence. There is always justification for the killings. These are obviously the same people, who protested the death of a "poor gorilla", and brought of the criminal record of a 2 year old black boy's father (who was not even there), who fell into a gorilla enclosure, and wanted to bring charges against the mother. Also the same ones who brought up the 4 Florida black girls who drowned, saying they stole a car, skipped school, etc. All the while, never having a problem with the fact, 2 white officers lied about trying to assist them.
So again, to answer the question, yes Micah Johnson was a hero and a martyr. My sincere prayers are to his family, the police officers families, Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and the countless others who have lost their lives to police brutality. Where do we go from here? They have got to start prosecuting police officers. Because I believe the brutality and murders are increasing, because of the fact they are getting away with it, and the disconnect. It would also help if people see all innocent victims as human, and that All Lives Matter, and stop criminalizing minorities.
